'Le Wonga' cattle stud lies around 10km from Mount Gambier towards the beautiful Limestone coastline. Situated south of the city between the Blue Lake Crater and the Mt Shanck Crater our MN status 2 patch of dirt benefits from both the rich volcanic deposits, clean sea air and the relatively stable water supply of the region.
Established in the late 1800's our farm on Bucks Hill (named to the original holders) is host to a lovely Mount Gambier Limestone Villa that we call home. Purchased in 2004 'Le Wonga' has seen the streamlining of Steve's herd with the aim of producing both quality genetics and stud animals into the future. Since moving to the district three years ago neighbours have been impressed with the cattle they have watched from over the fences and at least three have purchased numbers to start their own Salers herds. The local butcher is among these clients and he has been very pleased with the animals purchased to date, he has found that his clients have travelled expressly to his shop just to purchase Salers meat.
Showing stud animals is new to us with a trip to Melboure Royal in 2007 an exciting prospect. Our children are keen to become invlolved in the local showing circuit in the next year or so which is a great initative for their involvement in the future of our stud plans.
Our farm is featured on the following pages, we hope you enjoy your visit and please feel free to contact us with any queries or feedback.
